TheGardenDiet.com/news 3/6/06
Breakthrough is an independent documentary film about the life of a raw-vegan family. Brought to you by The Garden Diet and produced by Storm Talifero the film brings you into the life of the Talifero family who eat diet of 100% raw organic vegetables, fruits, seeds, nuts and sprouts. With four children ranging from 1 to 11 years old the film gives a view into a nature-oriented, active, healthy and creative family life. The Taliferos do home-birth, home-school, and home-business while making the raw food diet work in a warm family setting.
Storm has been a raw-vegan for 30 years. At 57 years of age he appears decades younger with an athletic body-builders physique and the lifestyle of an extreme adventurer. Jinjee has been a raw vegan on and off for 12 years and at 38 years old she continues to rejuvenate and increase her fitness level. Jinjee home-birthed her four children and the film shows her at pre-pregnancy weight and tone only 10 days after giving birth to her fourth child. Jinjee compares her two cooked-vegan pregnancies and two raw-vegan pregnancies crediting her two painless births to her raw-vegan diet at the time.
The family is shown climbing mountains, doing animations, playing music, preparing food, eating, gardening, and visiting the doctor for a check-up. Charts compare nutrients in raw food and cooked food. Storms 300 lb. nephew is filmed over a three month period losing 75 lbs. on the raw vegan diet. Jinjee and Storm talk about the deaths of their parents and Storms many family members who have died of debilitating diet-related diseases. They discuss how these losses guided them to their present dietary choices.
In an exhilarating sequence of scenes Storms eldest son Snow who was born raw-vegan and spent much of his life as a raw-vegan is shown climbing 7-story high Gibraltar Rock in Santa Barbara with no ropes. Scenes like this distinguish Breakthrough from instructional raw food videos and bring the actual effects of a raw food lifestyle into focus with a proof is in the raw-pudding attitude.
Independent film-makers the Taliferos are marketing their film without a distributor. The Internet has a huge network of people interested in the raw-vegan diet, veganism, and alternative health. As we have had our website TheGardenDiet.com up for about 6 years we have a huge email list of people who subscribe to our newsletter many of whom have purchased our film on DVD says co-producer Jinjee Talifero. We are excited about the response to the film so far and the opportunity the Internet presents for niche film-makers to get their message out to people directly.
The film will enjoy its premiere public screening in Los Angeles on Sunday March 12th at Mokichi Okada Art of Life Science Institute (MOA) located at 8564 Melrose Ave. kitty corner from The Bodhi Tree Bookstore at 2:30 PM. The screening is part of a free event called A Day of Inspiration which opens at 12:00 with a raw-vegan lunch available for purchase, followed by the Israeli film 39 Pounds of Love which will show at 1:00. The event is coordinated by Dorit Dyke of Serenity Spaces and the Chopra Healing Center. Dorit can be reached at 310-854-2078. The Taliferos who will be present and available for questions and answers after their film also hope to arrange multiple screenings around the country.
